IWSG – Book Release Blues

Happy Wednesday. Can you believe the first month of the year
is already over? Time sure flies. But new month means new IWSG post.

January was a big-ish month for me because I had my first publisher release. My problem story, Anything Once is officially out in the world. It was a whirlwind day and really the week. Being an indie I was eager to see if the launch would be any better than those titles. It wasn’t too bad. This was by far the best ranking I ever have achieved, even if it was only for like an hour. LOL I take what I can get.

But, the post release euphoria wears off. My rank is steadily going up as expected and the funk sets in. What’s next? I haven’t written anything in months. I *think* about writing, but actually sitting to do it, well my focus seems to still be on vacation.

With no new words, it means after my release next month I have zilch in the pipeline. In theory, I’m ahead of the game over other years with actually having two releases this year. But they are both at the beginning of the year which means if I can’t find my focus, I won’t have anything for the rest of the year.

The book release blues for me is not being able to spend enough time enjoying what I have accomplished because I know I have more to do. There is always something to do. Because there is always something to do, it keeps my mind moving which doesn’t help my lack of focus.

Totally feel like I’m chasing my tail on this.

Trying to take it one day/thing at a time is one of those
easier said than done situations. Head above water and try not to get lost in
the overwhelm.

Hope your first month of 2019 went well. Have a great February.
Until next time
~Meka

Thank you. It’ll pass it just takes time. And yes I do need a breather, but then it goes on for so long that it moves from a break to a way extended hiatus. LOL But hopefully not much longer.

The WEP that IWSG is joining might spark your muse again. My last WEP entry became the prologue to my latest novel. Another one became a short tale in an anthology. At least you hit the heights for a time. Keep on. You can achieve your dream.

I’ve never been part of an anthology. I’ve thought about submitting to the IWSG ones, but I write slow and deadlines scare me. LOL I did have a highlight from the last release so that was something to be proud of.

Congratulations on the release and the ranking, that is fabulous!
I am the worst at procrastinating and my books are 3 years apart. I really want to get to one a year. #keepmovingforward

Thank you! It’s the highest I’ve ever gotten so it was nice while it lasted. Yes the procrastinating. My first two books had that sort of 3 year gap. I’m trying for at least 1 completed book a year now. We’ll see if i manage that.

Congrats on your new release! It’s so important that we carve out time to celebrate these things. Otherwise, like you describe, life becomes an endless to-do list and we’re always focused on what we haven’t accomplished yet.

Is there any way you can treat yourself in celebration of this accomplishment? Maybe a week off without feeling guilty that you should be writing? I don’t know about you, but beating myself up doesn’t help my creativity at all.

    Fantastic cover, btw.

Thank you. It is important to take some time to celebrate, but that’s easier said than done. 😦 I have to work to focus more on the positive for sure.

I don’t have any set tradition for celebrating a release. It happens, I attempt to promote a little, then try to focus and move on to the next thing. I do beat myself up over not writing which does kill my desire because I feel bad for not doing it. LOL I’m a mess.

Thank you. And thanks for stopping by
